TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu today said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should ensure that corruption is weeded out from Congress-ruled states before expecting similar measures from other state governments.

BJP to fight UP election under collective leadership: Gadkari

BJP president Nitin Gadkari today said the party would fight the upcoming assembly election in Uttar Pradesh under a collective leadership and elected MLAs would choose the Chief Ministerial candidate in the event of the party coming to power in the state.

Delhi HC to hear Amar's bail plea today

The Delhi high court will on Wednesday hear the bail pleas of Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, arrested for his alleged role in the cash-for-votes scam.

Yeddyurappa's bail plea adjourned

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa's bail plea adjourned on Tuesday. The hearing will now take place on Yeddyurappa's bail plea on Thursday.

Following the courts decision to adjourn today's hearing Yeddyurappa has been taken back to the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, where he has spent the last 3 days since his arrest. Anna factor: Kuldeep Bishnoi wins Hisar bypoll

Kuldeep Bishnoi of the Haryana Janhit Congress has won the by-elections in Hisar by 23,617 votes. Mr Bishnoi's father, Bhajan Lal, died in June; he was the Lok Sabha MP for this constituency.

Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt gets bail

Sanjiv Bhatt, arrested for allegedly fabricating evidence to implicate Narendra Modi in the Gujarat riots, was granted bail by a local court in Ahmedabad on Monday, 17 days after he was sent to jail.
Sessions Judge V.K. Vyas granted bail on the condition that Mr. Bhatt would cooperate with the investigation and would remain present when called for.
Mr. Bhatt was in jail after being arrested on September 30 in connection with an FIR filed against him by a police constable K.D. Pant for allegedly threatening him and making him sign a false affidavit with regards to the IPS officer’s presence in the February 27, 2002 meeting called by the Chief Minister after the Godhra train burning incident.

Bishnoi leading in Hisar, Ajay Chautala at second place

Haryana Janhit Congress(HJC)-BJP alliance candidate Kuldeep Bishnoi is leading over his nearest rival Ajay Chautala of INLD by over 29,041 votes after seven rounds of counting for the by-polls to the Hisar Lok Sabha seat.
Bishnoi, son of former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, has so far got 1,56,049 votes, while Ajay Chautala, son of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, is placed second with a tally of 1,27,008 votes, the election office said here.
Ruling Congress candidate Jai Parkash is at the third spot with just 56,530 votes.

Yeddyurappa moves High Court seeking bail

Former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who has been remanded to judicial custody till October 22 by a Special Lokayukta Court in alleged land scam cases, moved the High Court today seeking bail.
A memo to this effect was filed by senior counsel Jayakumar S Patil before Justice B V Pinto praying for posting it for tomorrow. 68-year-old Yeddyurappa is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a city hospital.

Anna factor: Counting of votes underway in Hisar, Bishnoi leading

Kuldeep Bishnoi of Haryana Janhit Congress is leading over his nearest rival Ajay Chautala of Indian National Lok Dal by over 11,000 votes after two rounds of counting for the bypolls to the Hisar Lok Sabha seat.
Jai Prakash of Congress is at the third position.
The bypoll held on October 13 had witnessed a turnout of nearly 69 per cent with the Anna factor raising the stakes for the Congress in a triangular fight.

BSP Supremo inaugurates Noida dream project Ambedkar memorial park

A helicopter, a convoy of big cars, a red carpet and a line of officials in their Sunday best to greet their Chief Minister as Mayawati arrived at the Rashtriya Dalit Smarak in Noida to inaugurate her dream 33-acre park on Friday evening.

Putting all speculations to rest, prominent member of Team Anna, Arvind Kejriwal today said that lawyer Prashant Bhushan is still a part of the core team. Security has been stepped up in both Delhi and Mumbai in the wake of terror alerts issued for the two cities after Thursday's explosive haul in Ambala.
About five kilos of RDX, two timers and five detonators were found in a car parked outside the Ambala Cantonment railway station on Thursday morning. Ambala explosives meant for terror attacks in national capital

The car found in Ambala packed with explosives was meant for the banned Sikh terrorist group Babbar Khalsa, the Delhi Police announced on Thursday. The car was headed to the national capital for a terror strike, said the police."We recovered explosives from a Tata Indica car and the consignment was meant for Delhi,"Arun Kampani, deputy commissioner of police, Special Cell, told media in Delhi.
"Central intelligence agencies had informed us that a module of the Lashkar-e-Taiba was active in Jammu and Kashmir,"he added.

SC reduces compensation in Uphaar tragedy case

The Supreme Court today reduced the amount of compensation to be paid to the victims of Uphaar Cinema fire tragedy.

In what comes as an affirmation in regards to his conviction that the Anna Hazare led anti-corruption movement was supported by the RSS, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh says that he has "proof"  of the RSS 'links with Anna and that he shall go public with it on Wednesday.
 On Tuesday Singh had written an open letter to Hazare, where Singh had said RSS and its chief Mohan Bhagwat had extended their support to him during his recent fast. He alleged that Hazare's contention that he is not aware of this raises questions about his "credibility".

2G: JP Prez seeks to make statement on why PC be made co-accused

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy today told a Delhi court that he wanted to make a statement on why Union Home Minister P Chidambaram should be made a co-accused in the 2G scam case.
"Why Chidambaram should be made a co-accused in 2G case, I will make a statement in this regard in the court,"Swamy told Special CBI Judge O P Saini.

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Tuesday reached out to social activist Anna Hazare saying that he is being misled by his team. In a letter to the veteran Gandhian, Digvijay has also claimed that the Congress party has acted decisively against corruption.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani is all set to embark on his 38-day 'Jan Chetna Yatra'  from Jayaprakash Narayan's birth place Sitabdiara in Saran district today.

Lack of leadership in UPA reason for peoples' anger: Advani

Aircel-Maxis deal: CBI raids Marans, files FIR

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Monday, filed an FIR against former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanidhi Maran and two others in connection with the controversial Aircel-Maxis deal.
Apart from the Marans, the two others who have been named in the FIR are TA Krishnan and Ralph Marshal. The CBI had said that after Aircel was sold to the Maxis Group, investments were made by the Malaysian firm in the family business of Marans.

Will Bhatt get bail?

A sessions court in Ahmedabad will on Friday resume the hearing of arrested IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt's bail plea. Sessions judge VK Vyas had adjourned the hearing on Bhatt's bail on October 5 after partly hearing arguments of his lawyer.
On Wednesday, the court rejected the Gujarat government's application opposing hearing of Bhatt's bail plea.
The government had argued that a plea seeking police remand of the suspended Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was pending before another judge of the court. 
Today, Vyas will hear Bhatt's bail plea as another judge hears the pending police remand application. The court hearing the remand application had reserved for more details....

Dubbing PDP demand for his resignation as a political stunt, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah today  dismissed allegations of"political payoffs"against him and said truth will emerge in the judicial inquiry into the death of an NC worker."Farooq Abdullah has nothing to do with it. Will Sanjiv Bhatt get bail? Gujarat sessions court to decide today

The Gujarat sessions court today hear the bail plea of suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt. The Gujarat government on Monday challenged in the sessions court a magisterial court's order denying remand of Bhatt, arrested for allegedly threatening and forcing a constable to sign a falseaffidavit.
Bhatt was arrested on September 30 in connection with an FIR filed against him by police constable K D Pant in June for allegedly threatening him and making him sign false affidavits regarding a meeting called by chief minister Narendra Modi on February 27, 2002, hours after the Godhra train carnage.
